The Panagia Gorgoepikoos - Mother of God-handmade Greek orthodox Russian icon – and the chest with relics of Holy Great Martyrs George the Victory-Bearer and Demetrius Myrrh-Gusher will be laid at the Ciuflea Monastery in Chisinau in the evening of August 8. The Moldovan Metropolitan Church said the holy things are being brought from Greece with the blessing of His Holiness Vladimir, the Metropolitan Bishop of Chisinau and all Moldova, IPN reports.
On August 9, when it is celebrated the Feast of Holy Great Martyr Panteleimon, a Divine Liturgy will be held at the Monastery starting at 7aqm and the Saint Maslu service starting at 9am.
The Panagia Gorgoepikoos Icon is considered a wonderworking icon that is kept at the Docheiariou Monastery located in Mount Athos in Greece.
Holy Great Martyr George was born in a family of Christians in Capadocia. He lived during the time of Emperor Diocletian (4th century). Holy Great Martyr Demetrius lived during the time of Emperors Diocletian and Maximian Galeriu (284-311). He was the son of a Roman proconsul in Thessalonica The parents of St Demetrius were secretly Christians, and he was baptized and raised in the Christian Faith in a secret church in his father’s home.
