Palliative care to be provided behind bars

The Department of Penitentiary Institutions signed an agreement with Angelus-Moldova Foundation for improving the quality of life of the prisoners suffering from incurable diseases at advanced stages. Based on this agreement, doctors of Penitentiary No.16-Pruncul will be trained to provide palliative care to these persons, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release from the Department of Penitentiary Institutions, the team of Angelus-Moldova paid a working visit to the prison’s hospital. The specialists studies the medical records on the detainees, examined every patient and are to work out individual care plans. The palliative care represents treatment to reduce pain without curing the cause. The aim is to ensure a better life for the sick persons and for the family. The Department of Penitentiary Institutions has announced that it wants to extend the range of medical, psychological, social and spiritual assistance services for detainees with incurable diseases in terminal stages.
