Palliative care services to be provided on left side of the Nistru

Palliative care services will also be available on the left side of the Nistru River, based on the experience gained in Chisinau. This will be possible thanks to an initiative of the Philanthropic Foundation “Angelus Moldova” that is financially supported by the European Union. The project envisions the training of specialists in palliative care, translation of the national clinical protocols and of relevant specialty information, IPN reports.

For the purpose, 13 specialists from the left side of the Nistru during June 7-8 paid visits to the domicile of patients together with the personnel of “Hospice Angelus” and followed how palliative care services are provided, and also to the Pediatric Palliative Care Center “Casa Angelus” in Isacova village of Orhei district.

“We hope preconditions for introducing a functional palliative care system on the left side of the Nistru will be created following the implementation of this project. By addressing the issue of palliative care and incurable diseases that can affect anyone, we show that we face together the general-human challenges,” stated Cristina Grossu-Chiriac, executive director of “Angelus Moldova”.

Palliative care became a component part of the health system of Moldova in 2008. This is a novelty for patients and doctors on the left side of the Nistru.

This is one of the 30 partnerships financed by the European Union through the Support to Confidence Building Measures Program implemented by UNDP, whose goal is to improve the cooperation relations between the two sides of the Nistru.
