Paintings by young Moldovans who took part in “Jan Matejko” contest displayed

An exhibition of paintings made by young Moldovans who took part in the contest “Jan Matejko” was opened on February 12. The plastic arts contest was staged in Chisinau by the Embassy of Poland for the third consecutive year. The opening of the exhibit was attended by officials, ambassadors and young artists, IPN reports.

In parallel with the plastic arts contest “Jan Mateiko”, there is held the piano contest “Ignacy Paderewski”. Polish Ambassador to Moldova Artur Michalski said that owing to this initiative, the young Moldovan artists can display their woks and showcase their musical abilities. The number of participants in both of the contests rises every year.

Artur Michalski had a message for the young artists. “When your works are admired in the most famous galleries of the world and the music performed by you is applauded in the most prestigious concert halls, you should remember that the contest “Jan Matejko” or “Ignacy Paderewski” was at the beginning of your artistic adventure,” stated the diplomat.

The initiator of the contests, director of the Zen-Club Moldova Ghenadi Topolnitksi said that these events are aimed at promoting talented young Moldovans who sometimes are not appropriately supported by the state. The two contests represent a debut platform for the young people to be able to feel people of culture.

Attending the event, Minister of Culture Monica Babuc also said that the two contests represent an occasion for showing that the Moldovans are talented. She thanked the Polish ambassador for taking care of the Moldovan culture.

For the first time in the history of the plastic arts contest, there were also exhibited sculptured works. Student of the Academy of Music, Theater and Plastic Arts” Valentina Prisacari presented the sculpture “Expectation”. She said that the plaster sculpture is her first work and the fact that it took part in the contest organized by the Embassy of Poland motivates her to work more intensely.

According to the organizers, the contests “Jan Matejko” and “Ignacy Paderewsky”, which this year were held for the third time, involved about 150 painters and approximately 30 musicians.
