Painting by Grigorescu to be brought to Chisinau for first time since 1900

The Romanian arts auction house Artmark will bring to Chisinau a selection of almost 200 Romanian and Bessarabian works of art, including the famous painting “Peasant woman with distaff” by Nicolae Grigorescu. It will be given to the National Museum of Arts of Moldova in custody. According to the Museum’s director Tudor Zbarnea, the painting was taken from a personal collection and conferred to the auction house Artmark. It now belongs to an arts investment fund. “It is a great happiness because all those who love arts will be able to see this masterpiece during 12 months. It is not excluded that this term will be prolonged,” Tudor Zbarnea has told Info-Prim Neo. He also said that maximum security measures have been taken. The painting will be put in a special case so as to conserve it. The price of tickets to the museum will not be changed so that all the art lovers enjoy access. “We welcome the initiative of the auction house Artmark to allow the art lovers to admire the works of Grigorescu, who is the great artist of all the Romanians,” said Deputy Minister of Culture Gheorghe Postica. He also said that a painting by Grigorescu will be brought to Chisinau for the first time since 1900. The painting “Peasant woman with distaff” represents a spinning woman and a herd of animals. Last year it was sold for €250 000 and is the third best sold work of arts on the Romanian art market.
