The Democratic Action Party (PAD) intends to organize a constitutional referendum on the election of the head of state by direct vote, the party’s head Mihai Godea announced after the meeting of the PAD’s Political Council, Info-Prim Neo reports. The PAD also aims to transform by referendum the election system into a mixed one so that half of the MPs are elected by constituencies, while half under party lists. The third proposal that the PAD will put forward in the referendum is to reduce the number of MPs from 101 to 71. Mihai Godea said that during six months there will be collected the signatures needed to initiate the referendum that may take place in autumn. He also said that he does not believe in the referendum that the ruling alliance intends to hold to simplify the procedure for electing the head of state in Parliament. “I think they do not know what they do. They only try to obtain a delay,” said Mihai Godea. The referendum announced by the AEI is to take place in April at the latest.
