PAD demands strictly obeying legislation when selecting candidates for President
The Democratic Action Party (PAD) says that the legislation must be fully implemented when selecting candidates for the presidency, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the party.
“Among the documents that the future presidential candidates must present are the confirmation that at least 15 MPs support the candidate, the medical certificate and the income statement. These requirements are superficial and far from the legal norm,” one of the leaders of the PAD Corneliu Gurin said in a news conference on October 24.
The PAD informs that under Law No. 271-XVI of 18.12.2008 concerning the examination of the holders and candidates for public posts, any candidate for a public post must present biographical data, information about the criminal record, the property and revenues, the financial commitments and the securities owned by the candidates and their relatives of the first degree, interest statements and other pertinent information to prove their moral probity and merits.
“If the candidates for the presidency are not examined transparently and rigorously, there may be elected a candidate who will be incompatible with this post and who will promote obscure interests,” said Corneliu Gurin.
A call launched by the PAD says the Constitution provides for the election of the head of the entire state, not a head of the lawmakers or of the parliamentary parties.
The special commission for the supervision of the presidential elections Monday announced that the proposals concerning the candidates for the post of head of state, signed by at least 15 MPs who support the given candidate, must be filed to the commission three days before the election day at the latest. It must be accompanied by the following documents: the candidate’s written agreement, the medical certificate issued by the empowered medical institution, a statement on the incomes earned by the candidate in 2010-2011, the biographical data and the copy of the identity card.
