The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe recognized the act of military aggression against the Republic of Moldova and respectively the occupation of its Transnistrian region, IPN reports, quoting sources of the pan-European organization.
The PACE unanimously accepted an amendment tabled by Romania, Ukraine, France, Estonia, the UK, Georgia and Turkey to a resolution that condemns the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
The document says that through its attitude and actions, the leadership of the Russian Federation poses an open menace to security in Europe, following a path which also includes the act of military aggression against Georgia and subsequent occupations of its two regions in 2008, the illegal annexation of Crimea, and its role in eastern Ukraine, which culminated in the illegal recognition of the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk as “independent States”, and the act of military aggression against the Republic of Moldova and respectively the occupation of its Transnistrian region.
So far, the “harshest” Council of Europe’s formulation was “under the de-facto control of the Russian Federation. As usual, the documents of the CoE and other international organizations avoided making reference to the status of the Transnistrian region so as to avoid causing the Russian delegates’ discontent.
The international press reported that the Republic of Moldova didn’t sign the amendment to the draft document, but voted for its adoption.
