PACE President praises Moldova for efforts to implement European reforms

The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Jean-Claude Mignon approved of the efforts made by Moldova to implement European reforms. In a meeting with Speaker Marian Lupu in Chisinau on December 18, the European official said that the PACE will provide all the support needed to finish these processes and to make progress in settling the Transnistrian conflict, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the legislative body. Marian Lupu said the importance of this close dialogue with the PACE derives from the fact that it is in perfect consonance with Moldova’s European aspirations and comes to support the signing of the Association Agreement and the Free Trade Agreement with the EU, and the dialogue on the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovans. “Such decisions are adopted in the complexity of the Brussels- Strasbourg dialogue,” he stated. The two officials also discussed the prospects of resolving the Transnistrian dispute, especially the building of confidence between the two sides of the Nistru and the initiation of dialogue between the Moldovan MPs and the deputies of the so-called Supreme Soviet of Transnistria. Marian Lupu and Jean-Claude Mignon underlined the importance of ensuring positive results in the settlement process at parliamentary level and in the talks in the 5+2 format. Other details about the European official’s visit to Moldova will be provided in a news conference that Marian Lupu and Jean-Claude Mignon will give on December 20. The same day, the PACE President will deliver a speech in Parliament.
