Oxygen station built at Traumatology Hospital with Japan’s support

A medical oxygen station was constructed and put into operation at the Clinical Traumatology and Orthopedics Hospital. The oxygen generator was purchased with about US$91,000 in grant funding that was provided by the Government of Japan through Kusanone Program, IPN reports.

The hospital’s director Sergei Ștepa said the given project stimulated the hospital’s administration to initiate additional works to bring oxygen to every patient’s bed. An external piping system and an internal system in wards were created and the anesthesia and ventilation machines can now work under the pressure of oxygen and do not need additional generators. They also aim to obtain hot water by developing the oxygen generation system.

Japan’s Ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Yoichiro Yamada said that owing to the grant of almost US$91,000, the hospital was equipped with a new medical oxygen generator instead of the old system. He thanked the medical staff, primarily the traumatologists and orthopedists, confessing that he broke bones for four times and he was every time successfully treated at the hospital. The diplomat noted that the international community approves of the professionalism shown by doctors in the fight against COVID-19, the energy crisis, the inflation and the wave of refugees. Yoichiro Yamada stated that Japan has been Moldova’s partner in healthcare for many years and will continue to cooperate with Moldova on its path of European integration, noting that since last year they have been working on a new project that will increase Moldova’s capacities.

Secretary of state of the Ministry of Health Ion Prisăcaru said that with the support of the Government of Japan, Moldova already implemented projects to the value of over €50 million. Projects totaling US$4.5 million were implemented as part of the investment program Kusanone, within which the given station was built. Over the last two years alone, the national medical institutions benefitted from over US$700,000 lei within Kusanone. The oxygen station to the value of over US$90,000, which is already functional, will help a lot the hospital as this will have a constant and very well controlled flow of oxygen. With the replacement of the old system that was more expensive, the costs will be now halved.

The grant assistance for grassroots human security projects, Kusanone Program, was launched in Moldova in 2008.
