The owners of the plots of land situated in the zone of the railway line Cahul-Giurgiulesti that is under construction will be obliged by the Government to sell the plots. At Wednesday’s meeting, the Cabinet approved a bill which proposes to declare the line as object of national significance. Those that will not want to sell the land will suffer the consequences of the law, Prime Minister Vasile Tarlev said, making it clear that the owners that will not negotiate with the Government for reasonable prices will remain without the land anyway. The Premier said that it is not fair to ask 15 million dollars for a hectare of land that is located near the branch line. About 50% of the work on the drainage system has been carried out. There were built 11 kilometres of railway. Tarlev said that the project is implemented very slowly, expressing his concerns over the inefficient activities of certain public institutions involved in the project, especially Moldova’s Water Agency and the Agency for Land Relations and Cadastre. The railway line Cahul – Giurgiulesti is about 50 km long. The construction works are assessed at about 850 million lei.
