Owner burns to death in house fire

A terrible fire occurred in Coșnița village of Dubăsari district, where a house burned to the ground in a strong fire. Five firefighting crews intervened and firemen fought the flames for several hours. The charred body of the 76-year-old owner was found in the house, IPN reports.

The General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations said that the fire was reported on the night of January 1, shortly after 03:00 a.m. The firefighters found that the flames engulfed practically all the goods inside and the roof of the house with a total area of 180 square meters. The rescuers managed to completely extinguish the fire close to twelve noon.

Specialists established that the fire most probably broken out due to non-compliance with the fire safety rules when using the heating stove.

The firefighters urge the people not to clog the ventilation ducts, to periodically ventilate the rooms where the burning takes place, especially when stoves, electrical appliances or boilers that run on wood or natural gas are used. The citizens are also asked not to overload the stoves and to use only combustible materials for which the stove was intended, avoiding lighting the fire by spraying gasoline, oil or other easily flammable liquids.

According to data of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the about 1,660 fires reported in the country the past year resulted in over 100 deaths, with three of the victims being children. Eleven fires happened in the first two days of the new year.
