Over US$ 240,000 for representing state in U.S. court

The Ministry of Justice drafted a decision concerning the signing of a contract and allocation of financial resources for ensuring the representation of the state in a case initiated by Gater Assets Limited against the Republic of Moldova, which is pending at the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. A contest was held to choose the provider of such services and the bid of the winner is of US$ 243,000, IPN reports.

The draft decision says that in July 2016, Gater Assets Limited – a limited liability company founded in accordance with the laws of the British Virgin Islands – filed a lawsuit against the Republic of Moldova to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York by which it requested to renew a court judgment in favor of the plaintiff and against SC “Gaznabtranzit” SA, SC “Moldovagaz” SA and the Republic of Moldova. The court judgment passed in July 2000 resulted from the recognition of an arbitrary hearing of November 1998 following the arbitration administered by the Court of International Commercial Arbitration at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Russian Federation based in Moscow.

At the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York, Moldova will be represented by the law firm “Vladimir Iurkovscki” in cooperation with Schönherr Rechsanwalte Gmbtl Schoenherr SRL, in partnership with Chaffetz Lindsey LLP (Chaffetz).
