Over two quarters of population employed in national economy are working in private sector

The population employed in national economy totalled 1.271 mln persons as of late 2006. The number of men was almost equal to that of women. 45.2% of the total number of employees were urban residents, while 54.8% rural residents. The highest rate of employment (66.1%) has been registered among persons aged 50-54. The analysis of the structure of employed population by age groups shows that employment rate of persons aged 25-54 was of 74.5%, aged 65 and above of 3.4%. Four in five persons aged 65 and above have been involved in agricultural activities. By education, 43.1% graduated from secondary and vocational schools, and 21.4% have higher education degrees. The number of persons with secondary trade education degrees and that of persons who graduated from high schools are almost equal (17.3%, respectively 16.3%). As concerns the distribution by form of activity, 32.7% of the total number of employed persons were working in the agricultural sector, of whom 56.4% worked in their own auxiliary households. The rate of persons employed in industry was 12.6%, in trade and hotel services –15.9%. Doctors and teachers accounted for an aggregated 15.3%. According to the distribution by forms of property, 67.8% of population has been employed in private enterprises and 27.7% - in public enterprises. The structure of the employed population according to the professional status reveals that the number of employees comprises 65.9%. Employers made up 1% of the total population, of whom 54.1% dealt with trade. 10.7% of the total number of persons employed in economy have worked in the unofficial sector.
