More than 38 percent of the respondents questioned by the Barometer of Public Opinion say they have or plan to obtain the Romanian citizenship. According to the results of the poll, 1.4% of respondents already have Romanian citizenship, while 10% have submitted application to acquire it. 27% said they intend to submit such applications. Over 48% of respondents said they don’t need a Romanian citizenship. Of those who hold or have in mind to obtain the citizenship of the neighbour country, 57% explain it by the need to freely travel across Romania and the EU space, and nearly 30% sad they want to find a job anywhere in the EU. Almost 6% said they need the citizenship because they “feel Romanians”. At the beginning of the year, the Romanian authorities stated that almost 800,000 Moldovans submitted applications to acquire the citizenship. The official Chisinau denied the figure.
