Over 9 billion lei borrowed from non-bank lenders in six months

Individuals borrowed 9.16 billion lei from non-bank lenders in the first half of this year, which is by 7.46% more than in the corresponding period last year.

According to the National Financial Market Commission, the amount of loans offered in the second quarter of this year decreased by 5.6% compared to the first quarter. This drop is due to the fact that, because of the 19 pandemic, non-bank lenders focused on extending or renegotiating contracts with existing debtors, to the detriment of granting new loans. About 18% of the contracts were renegotiated on request.

As of June 30, there were 168 entities authorized to carry out non-bank lending activity. The number of beneficiaries of non-bank loans exceeded 458,000people, and the average size of a loan was about 20,000 lei.

As of July 1, the equity of non-banking organizations amounted to over 3.6 billion lei, a 21.3% increase compared to the same period last year. The total value of assets held by the non-bank lending sector exceeded 10.4 billion lei, up by 5.9% on the corresponding period last year.
