Over 8,000 sacks of garbage collected in Chisinau municipality

More than 8,000 sacks of garbage were collected in the municipality of Chisinau within the Cleanup Day "Hai, Moldova!”. The event involved about 3,500 volunteers who collected litter in nine parks of Chisinau, IPN reports.

The participants in the cleanup received gloves and sacks for collecting waste. According to the organizers, 8,068 sacks of garbage were gathered in the green areas of Chisinau, over 2,500 of which were with recyclable waste. The largest part of the collected waste consisted of bottles and plastic packing as well as single-use plates and glasses. But the volunteers also collected tires, mattresses and domestic appliances. The participants included students, teachers, public servants, lawyers, doctors, engineers, singers, etc.

Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca took part in the cleanup event together with employees of the City Hall and volunteers in the Park "Valea Morilor”. The mayor underlined the importance of this campaign that can become a tradition for the municipality of Chisinau, saying that they intervened where the specialist services do not manage to keep places clean.

It was the third cleanup event "Hai Moldova!". For the first time this year, it was held simultaneously in Moldova and in Romania. The previous events of the kind involved over 100,000 people all over Moldova.
