Over 8,000 children to benefit from dental treatment and vaccinations
Children in 32 boarding schools and orphanages across Moldova will receive free dental treatments and vaccinations against Hepatitis-A during the week of November 13- 18, under a program within the North Carolina-Moldova State Partnership.
According to a press release of the US Embassy in Chisinau, A total of 6,200 children will receive fluoride treatments, more than 2,050 children will be vaccinated against chickenpox, and 1,500 will get shots for Hepatitis-A. The program will be administered by four North Carolina Army National Guard soldiers and two professors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry.
This humanitarian project is financed through the U.S. European Command’s Humanitarian and Civic Assistance program and is overseen by the Bilateral Affairs Office (BAO) of the U.S. Embassy in Chisinau. The two dental professors are funded by private money raised by donations through the North Carolina-Moldova State Partnership Program.
North Carolina has had a partnership with Moldova since 1999 and cooperates in a number of different fields including health care, education, business, government reform, the arts and military affairs.
On Tuesday November 14, US ambassador Michael Kirby will pay a visit to the school nr. 3 from Malina Mica district of the capital, where 233 pupils will receive dental treatment and another 52 will be vaccinated.
