More than 80 containers on waste storage platforms in the municipality of Chisinau were vandalized or burned in the course of June and at the beginning of July. The local authorities call on the people to behave responsibly as a new contain costs about 7,000 lei and this is locals’ money, IPN reports.

Mayor of Chisinau Ion Ceban said that most of the containers were vandalized in Botanica and Râșcani districts. For example, fire was set to containers intended for plastic, glass and paper waste. Another 40 zinc-coated containers and 35 plastic containers were drawn or damaged by individuals.

Specialists will decide whether the burned and damaged containers can be repaired or shall be replaced with new ones.

The municipality calls on the inhabitants and guests of the capital city not to destroy containers on waste storage platforms and to inform the police through 112 if they see persons doing this. The citizens of Chisinau are also urged not to throw smoldering cigarettes into the containers so as to avoid fires.
