The National Center for Sustainable Energy (CNED) has successfully concluded the second session of the Appliance Voucher Program. Over 7,200 households in the Republic of Moldova received financial support to purchase energy-efficient appliances, marking a significant step toward reducing energy consumption and supporting vulnerable families, IPN reports.
The program, implemented by CNED and the Ministry of Energy, is funded by the state budget and with support from the European Union. Beneficiaries received vouchers worth 7,000 and 6,000 lei to purchase energy-efficient appliances. Among the items purchased were 3,974 washing machines and 3,246 refrigerators, leading to significant savings on energy bills.
"We continue to work for a sustainable future, providing real solutions that lower energy bills, improve quality of life, and contribute to a cleaner environment", stated Ion Muntean, Director of CNED.
The program primarily targets families with multiple children, elderly individuals, and those with special needs, helping them access modern, energy-saving appliances. Replacing old, energy-intensive equipment is expected to save approximately 4 million lei annually, equivalent to a yearly reduction of 550 lei in electricity bills per household.
Additionally, the program promotes environmental protection by recycling old appliances, which are collected from beneficiaries when replaced with new, energy-efficient models. Since its launch, CNED’s Green Line has handled over 15,000 calls to assist beneficiaries with information and voucher usage.
CNED plans to continue launching new sessions to support more households and facilitate Moldova's transition to a greener economy. Recently, CNED signed an agreement with the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad), which will allocate €7.5 million to support the program next year.
