Over 7,000 infections and 250 deaths caused by COVID-19 so far

The infections with the novel coronavirus in Moldova exceeded 7,000, while the death toll from COVID-19 rose to 250, IPN reports.

This is the second consecutive week when the number of infections exceeds 1,000 over a week. During May 18-24, there were reported 1,033 new infections with COVID-19, as opposed to 1,133 cases confirmed the previous week, during May 11-17.

Of the total number of infections in Moldova, the largest number – 2,174 – were recorded in the municipality of Chisinau. The persons aged between 50 and 59 are the most affected. Those infected in this age category total about 1,600. The infected persons aged between 40 and 49 and those aged between 60 and 69 come next with approximately 1,300 cases in each category. Of the total 4,200 women confirmed with COVID-19, 67 were pregnant when they contracted the virus.

Of the total number of confirmed cases, almost 1,500 are among healthcare workers, with 350 doctors and about 580 nurses being infected. The rest are doctor’s assistants, pharmacists and auxiliary personnel.

According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, over 3,700 persons confirmed with COVID-19 have recovered by now.

The infections globally exceeded 5.5 million in number. The casualties in the over 200 affected states reached 346,700.
