Over 63m lei earmarked for liquidating swine fever outbreak in Nisporeni

The state will provide 63.6 million lei for liquidating an African swine fever outbreak in Soltăneșt village of Nisporeni district. A decision to this effect was approved by the Cabinet on Friday, IPN reports.

Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry (ANSA) Vladimir Bolea said that the money is allocated to the National Food Safety Agency from the Government’s Intervention Fund. The institution will ensure owners of slaughtered animals following the liquidation of swine fever outbreaks are compensated for the loss.

According to him, ANSA examined data from the automated information system State Register of Animals and determined that compensation will be paid for almost 29,000 slaughtered animals.

The authorities explained that 500,000 lei were allocated to ANSA in 2023 for paying compensation to animal owners. Respectively, these resources are not sufficient to compensate the pig farm LLC “Golden Piglet” based in Soltăneșt, Nisporeni.

In the course of 2023, more than 20 swine fever outbreaks were recorded and over 330 pigs and more than 20 wild boars were destroyed as a result.
