More than 60% of the informal employees are ready to any time ask the employer to be fully paid the salary officially, from which taxes and contributions would be deducted, shows a poll carried out by the National Confederation of Trade Unions of Moldova. Over 65% of those surveyed are ready to insure themselves so as to benefit from the rights provided by the social insurance system, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Confederation says the respondents are not motivated to contribute to the social security system because the payments for covering the social risks are very low. According to the Confederation, the system should be efficient, while the contributions to the state social insurance budget and health insurance funds must be paid by everyone in the required way.
The poll reveals that among the most often problems faced by the informal employees are the impossibility of benefitting from free medical services and the non-payment of medical leave. Over 40% of the respondents faced such problems as the non-payment of leave, while 30% said they could not benefit from state subsidies or compensations.
More than half of the interviewed informal workers said they have a stable job and a permanent employer, while 40% said they do day work or perform particular works. Slightly over half of those polled said they do not have a work contract in written form, while 75% of them said they agreed with the employer the salary they will get for the provided work.
According to experts, the informal employees must be educated to realize the importance of paying taxes and contributions into the state budget so that they could benefit from the rights offered by the social insurance system.
The poll was conducted on a sample of 500 persons considered informal employees because they do not have a work contract or receive a part or the whole salary unofficially and the taxes and contributions are not deducted from it.
