Over 60 education institutions have been closed
More than 60 education institutions in seven northern districts have been closed following the heavy snowfall that blocked the roads. Over 1,000 students could not be transported to district schools, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the December 18 meeting of the Government’s commission for emergencies, Minister of Education Maia Sandu said that about 11,000 students from the districts of Glodeni, Donduseni, Drochia, Soroca, Floresti, Ocnita, and Sangerei do not go to classes. Almost 2,000 students could not be taken to district schools in 12 districts.
The minister also said that the education process will be resumed on Wednesday. The district education divisions will decide when the classes that weren’t taught will be given. “We hope that some of these institutions will start to teach those lessons this Saturday, but most of them will do it from next January,” she stated.
Minister Maia Sand issued a circular letter by which the local authorities are authorized to decide whether to temporarily stop the education process in the schools with limited access for school buses or not. The decision was taken following the recommendations made by Prime Minister Vlad Filat in a videoconference with district heads on December 16.
