Over 60 companies have submitted bids in an international contest for architectural solutions to rehabilitate the National Philharmonic, which was heavily damaged in a 2020 fire.
Ten bidders are from Moldova, and the others are foreign, prestigious companies, announced Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan.
The list of bidders remains confidential for now as the call for bids is still open.
After it closes in January, an international jury composed of architects and musicians will select the top three bids. Afterwards, public consultations will be launched to arrive at the final design, Prodan said.
On 24 September 2020, a significant part of the iconic building in central Chisinau that housed the National Philharmonic was lost to flames. The fire damaged the main concert hall and numerous musical instruments, among others. At present, the National Philharmonic musicians are hosted by the Palace of the Republic.
