After over 58% of the votes were counted by 10pm, the candidate for mayor of Chisinau of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth” Andrei Nastase polled 51.9% of the vote, while his rival Ion Ceban, of the Party of Socialists, 48.1%, IPN reports.
According to the preliminary data, the runoffs involved 248 674 voters, which is 39.12% of the persons eligible to vote.
There is no minimum turnout of voters required for the runoff vote. The candidate who gains the largest number of votes emerges victorious. The elected mayor will hold office until the local general ordinary elections of 2019.
