As many as 50,310 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine that are supplied free of charge through the COVAX Facility were delivered to Moldova on May 20, Another 50,310 doses will be shipped tomorrow, IPN reports, quoting the Ministry of Health.
The vaccine doses will be kept at the National Public Health Agency and will be distributed proportionally to all the national vaccination centers for immunizing all the categories of population.
More vaccine doses will be delivered through COVAX on May 24, namely 45,600 Astra Zeneca vaccine doses.
The use of Pfizer was authorized in a number of states, such as the U.S., Canada, the EU, and the UK. It was prequalified by the WHO and was approved by the European Medicines Agency.
The Republic of Moldova was the first country to receive COVID-19 vaccine doses through COVAX. Earlier it got 86,970 vaccine doses through COVAX (2,570 Pfizer-BioNTech doses and 62,400 AstraZeneca doses).
The national immunization campaign in Moldova was launched on March 2 and 264,380 persons have been immunized so far.
