Over 50% of work accidents in Transnistria are due to inappropriate working conditions
More than 100 work accidents have occurred in the Transnistrian region this year. Six out of these resulted in death. Leonid Yasenkov, the head of the labor protection service in Transnistria, says that the companies are to blame in most of the cases as they do not want to invest in security systems, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“The employer must insure proper working conditions. In the chase for profit, this problem remains out of focus. Steps are taken only after accidents happen,” Yasenko said.
According to statistics, 54% of the accidents are due to the inappropriate organization of the labor process. Persons under the influence of alcohol are involved in 15% of the cases.
The non-observance of the rules for using electric installations is one of the most frequent violations. In the first half of this year, the labor inspectors stopped the work of 65 units of equipment that endangered the employees’ life. Five cases were opened over administrative infringements and sent to the court. The inspectors also established that certain employers pay salaries to employees with delay.
The leader of Transnistria Igor Smirnov decreed 2008 the year of labor protection and industrial security.
