Over 50% of Moldova’s preuniversity institutions will be provided with educational software

More than a half of the preuniversity education institutions in Moldova will be provided with educational software during the new academic year 2007-2008 as part of the SALT programme, Minister of Education and Youth Victor Tvircun promises. The installation of software started last year through a pilot project implemented in 15 preuniversity education institutions, which got pieces of software for four subjects. According to the program SALT, the other institutions will have educational software by the end of 2009. Victor Tvircun announced that all the 1,475 preuniversity education institutions of Moldova in the new school year will be supplied with equipment and teaching aids needed for the SALT program. According to the cited source, 2,000 computers purchased as part of the programme will be installed in high schools and vocational schools by September 1. The educational programme SALT implemented with support from the World Bank is designed to provide all the pre-university education institutions with access to the Internet. The cost of the program is assessed at 400 mln lei. The Ministry of Finance will allocate by 52 mln lei in 2007 and 2008.
