Over 4,730 minors got vaccinated against COVID-19

Starting with the middle of November, 4,730 minors in Moldova have got the first dose of vaccine against COVID-19, while 3,600 have been fully vacinated. Ninel Revenco, coordinator of the national immunization program, said that the teens with preexisting diseases risk developing severe forms of COVID-19 and should get vaccinated. Vaccination can prevent the infection of the child. If the child contracts the virus, the vaccine will protect this from serious consequences for health, IPN reports.

“As any other existing mechanisms, the vaccines against COVID-19 have contraindications. The Center for Disease Control considers the severe allergic reaction, like anaphylaxis, and the immediate allergic reaction of ant severity that appears immediately after the administration of a dose or known allergy to one of the components of COVID-19 represent contraindications for vaccination” pediatrician Ninel Revenco noted in an interview disseminated by the Ministry of Health.

The allergic reactions associated with vaccines or injection therapies, like those provoked by food, pets, venom or oral medications, including oral equivalents of injectable drugs, are not a contraindication or a precaution measure for vaccination against COVID-19.

“As after the administration of any type of pharmaceutical product, after the COVID-19 vaccine is administered, the minors can suffer adverse events that show the body strengthens immunity by producing antibodies needed in the fight against the virus. The adverse events can be local and general. Among the local ones are pain, redness or edema at the injection site. Among the general ones are tiredness, headaches, muscle pain, fever, shivers, sickness, etc. These reactions can temporarily affect the daily activities of the minor and usually disappear in several days. Some of the children can suffer no adverse event associated with vaccination,” said the coordinator of the national immunization program.

If the minor already had COVID-19 and got cured, this should anyway get vaccinated, best in 90 days of the infection or the same day if the child does not feel well. The vaccine is administered only after obtaining a negative COVID-19 test result.

The minors are vaccinated only at the request of parents, caretakers or the legal representative, based on an informed consent.
