More than 45,000 people managed to buy a health policy at a discount during the first three months of the year, until March 31. Almost 30,000 people who are not officially employed and are not insured by the Government bought health policies at half price. Over 15,000 people, who are farmland owners, benefitted from a 75% discount, while 800 unemployed public notaries, bailiffs, lawyers and mediators paid the full amount of the health insurance premium, IPN has learned from the National Health Insurance Company.

After March 31, the health insurance premium in fixed amount will be fully paid by all those who do not work officially and do not form part of the categories insured by the state. The health policy can be used seven days after it is paid for.

The status of medically insured person in the case of private individuals who prove that they are abroad for at least 183 calendar days during the budgetary year is activated when the health policy is paid for. These persons will pay neither fine nor penalty.

A penalty of 0.1% of the insurance premium for each day of delay will be imposed as of April 1 on persons who are permanently in the country and didn’t pay the health insurance contributions on time. The persons who do not buy a health policy are liable to a fine of 750 to 1,650 lei.

According to press officer of the National Health Insurance Company Silvia Munteanu, the mandatory health insurance premium, penalties and fines are paid at any commercial bank or post office based on a payslip that is issued by the customer relations service of the Company’s local offices. Afterward, the payers must present the proof of payment to the local customer relations service.

The mandatory health insurance premium in fixed amount this year is 4,056 lei.
