The National Anticorruption Center (CNA) and the Anticorruption Prosecutor’s Office said they finished verifying and counting the cash seized Thursday following searches related to the Shor Party and its alleged illegal financing, with the tally coming in at about 4.5 million lei.
According to the CNA, it will now be decided which authority will take the cash for safekeeping.
Thursday’s searches targeted the cars of the party’s so-called “couriers”, whose alleged job was to distribute unaccounted-for cash to the party’s local leaders. It is believed that the latter would use the cash to remunerate people for attending the party’s rallies.
Three people were detained after the searches, with bags and envelopes with cash “in particularly large amounts” seized.
