This year, the National Wine Day will take place in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau, on October 1 and 2. The 15th event of the kind will bring together about 40 small, medium-sized and large wineries that will present about 400 old wines and wines made from the new harvest in different geographical areas, IPN reports.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Vasile Luca told a news conference that the National Wine Day is staged under the country brand “Wine of Moldova. Living Legend” and this fact contributes to promoting the wine’s image at national and foreign levels. “We must join forces and continue to promote our producers and wines, but it is more important to promote the Republic of Moldova as a country that makes wines of the highest quality,” stated the official.
Gheorghe Arpentin, director of the National Office of Vine and Wine, noted that the event’s slogan is “Man is the Soul of Wine” and is designed to promote the quality wine consumption culture. Besides the events at stands, the wineries will be involved in a “Wine Road” with thematic tours from Chisinau to wine companies, underground galleries and cellars, tasting halls and pensions.
According to Gheorghe Arpentin, a “Wine School” in the central square of Chisinau will teach thematic seminars on correct tasting and sophisticated tasting. Ensembles, orchestrates and brass bands from Moldova’s three wine regions – Valul lui Traian, Codru and Stefan Voda – will give a concert.
The visitors will be able to taste traditional and other kinds of dishes that will be prepared during the event and to take part in a handicrafts fair centering on the wine theme.
This year again, the organizers prepared about 6,000 bottles of wine that will be given to each passenger who will arrive at the Chisinau International Airport three days before the wine holiday.
A sum of 2.3 million lei was allocated for organizing the event. On both days of the event, the activities will start at 11am and will end at 10pm.
The National Wine Day was instituted in 1990 and has been celebrated annually starting with 2002. In 2009, the Government decided that the holiday will be celebrated at the Exhibitions Center “Moldexpo”, but since 2013 this has been marked in the central square of Chisinau. Last year, the holiday was held in a new format and cultural and tasting events were staged at each winery. Such a decision was taken because there were about 300 tents put up by protesters in the Great National Assembly Square.
