More than 400 people are being investigated on suspicion that they accepted money to vote according to instructions in the October 20 election. They face fines of up to 37,500 lei, according to the General Police Inspectorate, IPN reports.
The persons who cooperate with the investigation bodies and provide information will be exempt from paying fines, according to the law. “The law enforcement officers continue to focus on the investigation of the people who accepted money in exchange for votes, but also those who influenced the processes to corrupt voters,” said the GPI.
Earlier, three district leaders were detained in a criminal case opened for illegal financing of political parties, initiative groups, election contestants, as well as for money laundering, electoral corruption and the creation of a criminal organization. On Tuesday, the Chisinau Court of Appeals upheld the preventive measure imposed against them – 30-day remand detention.
