Over 400 kg of fish seized since fishing ban was introduced

More than 400 kilograms of fish have been confiscated since the ban on fishing in Moldova’s ponds and lakes was imposed in April. The largest volume was seized in Soroca district, where a fisherman illegally caught about 100 kilograms of fish to the value of over 12,000 lei, inspector Stanislav Baran, of the Ministry of the Interior, told Info-Prim Neo. Over 200 administrative reports have been drawn up so far, by 35-40 a week. The fines imposed on the poachers are minimum 200 lei. The seized fish is taken to the Pisciculture Inspectorate, where it is weighed and priced. The fish is then sold and the money is transferred to the state budget. The confiscated fishnets are burned. Stanislav Baran said most of the fishnets were found in the Ghidighici Lake. The fishing ban was introduced on April 10 and will be lifted on July 10.
