More than 363,000 Moldovans crossed the state border with biometric passports through the checkpoints situated at the frontier with Romania and through the Chisinau International Airport during the nine months of the abolition of the visa requirements by the EU for Moldova, IPN reports.
According to a communique of the Border Police, the largest number of Moldovan chose to go to the EU through the Leuseni customs post. Here, the customs officers recorded over 89,000 crossings by Moldovans with biometric passports. The Cahul checkpoint was also popular, being crossed by about 69,000 Moldovans, while over 59,000 Moldovans chose to go through the Chisinau Airport.
Also, 213 Moldovans were banned from entering the EU because they didn’t meet the entry conditions, while 64 Moldovans were not allowed to cross the border owing to the bans imposed on them for previous violations of the legislation. Also, 124 Moldovans were deported from EU countries.
The Moldovans holding biometric passports can travel visa-free in the Schengen area starting with April 28, 2014.
