More than 36,000 deaths were logged in Moldova last year. The figure is by 9,000 cases lower than in 2021, IPN reports, quoting provisional data of the National Bureau of Statistics.

According to the National Public Health Agency of the Ministry of Health, 58% of the deaths were due to circulatory system diseases, 16% to malign tumors, 7.5% to digestive system diseases, 55 to accidents, poisoning and traumas, 4.3% to respiratory system diseases, while 9.6% were due to other causes, primarily associated with COVID-19.

Mortality due to circulatory system diseases among women wa by 11.3% higher than among men, determining the female super-mortality phenomenon.

Major discrepancies between sexes were seen in the case of accidents, poisoning and traumas, malign tumors and respiratory system diseases, with male super-mortality being conspicuous here. The number of men who died as a result of accidents, poisonings and traumas was 3.5 times higher than in the case of women who died from similar causes, of deaths from respiratory system diseases – 2.2 times, of deaths from malign tumors – 1.4 times, of deaths from digestive system diseases – 1.3 times.
