More than 30,000 citizens have signed the petition addressed to European institutions by which the National Resistance Movement ACUM will demand to investigate and prosecute the citizens of the Republic of Moldova who are to blame for money laundering and were involved in the theft of the US$ 1 billion. The initiators aim to collect 50,000 signatures, IPN reports, quoting a press release of ACUM.

The petition was signed online and in person by citizens from all the country’s districts and by expats. The National Resistance Committee ACUM decided to compile a petition because the Moldovan authorities recovered no money of the stolen US$ 1 billion (12% of the GDP). On the contrary, they continued to protect the persons involved in this theft.

“Many of the stolen funds were spent on the EU’s territory so that there are all the conditions for the European intuitions, when they are notified, to conduct an investigation and prosecute the Moldovan citizens involved in the fraud,” stated Andrei Năstase, leader of the Party “Platform Dignity and Truth”.

Maia Sandu, the leader of the Party “Action and Solidarity”, called on the people to sign the petition and to urge their friends and relatives to do it too. “In squares, localities, dorms and everywhere the ACUM members go, the people sign confident that the European Union will help us to punish the thieves who committed money laundering and took part in the banking fraud. One common effort and we will reach the target of 50,000 signatories. Let’s mobilize and sign the petition addressed to the European institutions and to strongly advise at least ten people to sign,” noted the politician.

The petition is addressed to the European Parliament, the Council of Europe, the European Commission, the Council of the European Union, OLAF, Europol and is to be handed over to the EU institutions this November. The petition can be signed online or at the head offices of the PAS, at 31 Mateevici St, and PPPDA, at 15, 31 August 1989 St.
