Over 300 pheasants released into the wild

More than 300 pheasants were se free into the wild in Loganesti village of Hancesti district. Over 20,000 pheasants are annually released in all the country’s districts by the Association of Hunters and Fishermen of Moldova, IPN reports.

The pheasants are purchased from Hungary. When they are brought to Moldova, they are held for a period of ten days at the farm in Talmaza village of Stefan Voda district and are then distributed to districts, to adjustment cages, so that they go through the period of quarantine.

Pheasants have been released into the wild annually, starting with 1968. Otherwise, the population of such birds could reduce. “The purchase price of a two-month-old pheasant is €3.15, while the cost price is about 90 lei, with VAT, clearance, food and cage building included,” director of the Association of Hunters and Fishermen of Moldova Oleg Ciocoi stated for IPN. According to him, about 200,000 pheasants have been released into the wild during the last ten years.

Under the legislation, the hunting of pheasants is allowed between October 1 and January 15.
