Over the past 3 years, over 4.1 thousand hectares of forest cultures were planted in the Republic of Moldova. Over 16.5 thousand hectares of the forest fund were regenerated. Estimated resources for these work amount to MDL 36 mln. At the same time, actions on helping natural regeneration were undertaken on 6.7 thousand hectares and works on renewing the functionality of forests affected by natural calamities were performed on 3.5 thousand hectares. According to a Governmental decision on implementing regeneration and afforestation Program for 2003-2020, in order to ensure the necessary reproductive material in the aforementioned period, 802 tones of seeds were collected, including oak seeds – 446 tones; acacia – 87 tones, other species – 269 tones. In order to ensure the process of regeneration and expansion with seedling material, the Agency “Moldsilva” increased the number of forest nurseries from 18 to 24 unities. These nurseries produce about 70 million of seedlings per year or 221 million seedlings in the aforementioned period. The budgetary funds destined to the forestry field constituted in 4% in 2002, and in 2005 – 19%. The rest of the expenses were covered through the economic-financial activity of “Moldsilva” enterprise and with the sources of the subordinated forest units. According to the mentioned program, about 95 thousand hectares will be regenerated in the next 17 years.
