After the launch of mobile phone number portability on July 1 last year, more than 4,400 numbers on average have been ported monthly. After this service was launched in the fixed-line phone networks on August 1, the monthly average rose to over 540, shows a report by the ICT regulator (ANRCETI), IPN reports.

More than 29,000 numbers had been ported in six months. Over 26,000 of them are mobile phone numbers, while about 3,000 are fixed-line phone numbers. About 6,000 mobile phone numbers were ported in July alone.

Number portability enables  telephone users to retain their telephone numbers when changing from one network operator to another. The service is now available in over 70 countries. In Moldova, a number is ported within five workdays of the submission of the application for portability.
