Over 250,000 young trees will be planted this year on the National Greening Day, including 25,000 in Chisinau. On Saturday, October 29, local authorities across the republic will be involved in tree planting efforts. 1 million lei has been allocated from the National Ecological Fund for this purpose, Tudor Botnari, the vice-director of the Moldsilva Agency told Info-Prim Neo. The trees will be planted on a total area of 384 ha. The campaign takes place annually since 1995, in conformity with a presidential decree. Earlier the National Greening Day fell on the first Saturday of April, but because the efficiency was low, it was decided to transfer the campaign to the last Saturday of October. The autumn growing period lasts longer than the spring one, which allows the young trees to grow roots better. Also on Saturday a trilateral agreement will be signed between the Ministry of Environment, the Academy of Sciences and Moldsilva on protecting biodiversity in state-protected natural preserves.
