The National Greening Day “One Tree for our Eternal Living” will be marked in Moldova on October 26. The local public authorities of the first and second levels this season will plant 252,000 trees. Most of the trees will be planted in Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué of the Forestry Agency “Moldsilva”, new wooded areas will be created this year on 627 hectares. There will be carried out works to foster the natural regeneration on an area of 32 hectares and to plant trees on the areas of other owners, on 43 hectares.
The 1 million lei needed to purchase saplings is allocated from the National Ecological Fund. Other state and private organizations and the population are supplied with saplings for money. The 31 nurseries that occupy 900 hectares have enough saplings. There will be offered 656,000 saplings of different trees.
By a presidential decree of 2010, the day when the National Greening Day “One Tree for our Eternal Living” is celebrated was modified. Since 2011, it is marked on the last Saturday of October. Different activities to sensitize the people to the dangers threatening the environment, including the forests, are carried out all over the country in October – November.
