Over 2,500 new jobs to be created in Orhei district

More than 2,500 jobs will be created by Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze SRL, which is a daughter company of the international concern Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze AG, when this builds a harness factory in Orhei district. The factory will be 27,000 square meters in area and its first production hall will be opened next November.

In a news conference at IPN, Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze SRL financial director Igor Corman said Orhei district was chosen as a place for building the factory because of its geographical position, access ways, infrastructure and the potential labor force. The building works started at end-August.

“According to our plan, next August we will possess, at the first stage, an area of over 5,000 square meters, while next November we will put into operation the whole factory, with about 27,000 square meters. This will enable us to employ approximately 2,500 persons during the next few years,” stated Igor Corman. According to him, the production, quality, logistics, maintenance and IT managers were already chosen and they started to select and train operators.

Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze SRL was registered in December 2015. This June it started to work in a rented production hall in Orhei town. After the workers received training, this August they began to produce modules. Now the company employs 160 people. Igor Corman said the project could be extended to cover other regions of the country.

Deputy mayor of Orhei town Viorel Dandara said the investment made by Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze is very important for Orhei given that there will be created over 2,500 jobs for the people from the town and its neighborhood. Also, the company will pay taxes into the local and central budgets and the infrastructure will be developed. The investment ensures stability and confidence in tomorrow for the inhabitants of Orhei.

Sumitomo Electric Bordnetze AG is a global supplier of electronic wire harnesses and components for the international automotive industry, which currently employs more than 31,000 people in 15 countries. “We are the main supplier of such wire harnesses and have a market share of 40%,” stated the company’s director general Kenichi Urushibata. As to the factory that is to be built in Orhei, the director said this should be as good as the others of the network.
