More than 200 trees were planted near the Municipal Waste Landfill in Țânțăreni commune. The trees will provide a habitat for different species of birds and insects, says the Chisinau City Hall, which is the initiator of the planting campaign.
Among the tree species planted were two types of maple, ash, willow and acacia, which were specially selected for the environmental conditions of the area.
All the planted trees were watered with purified water which the municipal sanitation operator Autosalubritate obtains from the treatment of leachate, the fluid percolating from the landfill as a result of decomposition. The water, as confirmed by quarterly laboratory tests, does not contain chemicals harmful to plants or the soil, and can even be used for irrigation.
