More than 200 state-owned facilities will be denationalized. The list of facilities is to be approved by the Government in its September 11 meeting, IPN reports.
Among them are state-run companies and joint stock companies in which the state owns majority and smaller holdings and 14 unfinished constructions situated in the country’s districts.
Thus, the list includes the two power distribution networks from northern Moldova RED-Nord and RED Nord Vest and the thermoelectric plant Nord located in Balti town, which will be privatized for the first time, the 100% state-owned holdings in SA Moldtelecom, alcoholic beverages companies Barza Alba in Balti and Aroma in Chisinau, the state-run airline Air Moldova, and the 33.33% holding in Banca de Economii. There will be also denationalized a number of industrial companies, such as Farmaco, Floare Carpet, and CTC Tutun and smaller milk processing, caning, and tobacco companies as well as transport and road maintenance companies, hotels, the publishing house Stiinta and the printing house of the Academy of Sciences.
According to the Ministry of Economy, after the list is approved by the Government, the privatization process will be resumed by investment contests and through the Moldova Stock Exchange. The first privatization round will be held this autumn. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Valeriu Lazar repeatedly said that the Ministry perceives the privatization process as a structural reform whose major goal is to improve the work of these companies and to attract investments to develop them.
