Beginning with August 26, the National Ethnographic Museum will be hosting photographer Tudor Iovu's exhibition “Memories about People and the Country”. The 200 photographs on display were taken during 1988-1991 and reflect the events related to the national awakening movement that led to Moldova's independence 25 years ago.
“Throughout my entire life I've been following a path which I'm looking at through the camera lens”, says Tudor Iovu. “On this path I have encountered people who fought, who made sacrifices, who waved banners high, who chanted slogans or who simply cried. It makes me sad that among the thousands photos I'm revisiting today there are only a few portraying happy faces.”
Tudor Iovu is the one who came up with the idea to create a photography museum in Moldova, and he's working to bring this idea into life. “Now when technologies enable us to snap a picture with nothing more than an eraser, we simply must have a museum of photography. The future generations must have the opportunity to see how photography was started and how it evolved, in Moldova also ”, says Tudor Iovu.
The exhibition “Memories about People and the Country” will run until the end of September.
