Over 20 associations participate in fair-exhibition “Honey Day”

The fifth fair-exhibition titled “Honey Day” is taking place in the Cathedral Square in Chisinau between August 19 and 23. Thirty-five beekeepers representing 20 associations exhibited their products there. “We try to encourage the consumption of honey products as they are good for health,” the president of the National Beekeepers Association Stefan Contratiuc has told Info-Prim Neo. “We have participated in all the exhibitions held so far. This time, we came with more types of honey: acacia, linden and beech. We are proud of this,” said Iurie Turtureanu, apiculturist from Chiscareni village of Sangerei district. “At this exhibit, you have the possibility of showing everybody what you can do and getting acquainted with persons that have the same occupation as you. Also, we can sell the products on a larger market and be praised for our work,” said beekeeper Grigore Scutaru from Basarabeasca. At the opening, the fair was blessed by a group of priests from the God’s Birth Cathedral headed by archpriest Teodor Borta. The export of Moldovan honey products to the European Union was halted as they do not meet all the European standards. The president of the National Beekeepers Association voiced hope that the export will be resumed by this yearend. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the honey production this year will total 1,300-1,500 tonnes.
