The Executive Committee of the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia in the course of this year will allocate 1.2 million lei from the regional budget for preventing floods in the region.
Contacted by IPN, Andrei Vedutenko, adviser to the Bashkan of ATU Gagauzia, said that according to specialists, to solve the problem of home flooding by floodwater from the Ialpug River in Comrat, drainage systems should be built and the water supply and sewage networks should be replaced.
In 2008, the Comrat mayor’s office was awarded 20 million lei from the National Ecological Fund for implementing a project to reconstruct the sewerage system. However, only 1 million lei has been allocated so far. In a meeting with Bashkan Irina Vlah at the end of May, Prime Minister Pavel Filip assured he will order that the Ministry of Environment should unblock the financing for this project.
Many homes in Comrat are flooded practically after each heavy rain that causes the level of water in the Ialpug River to rise.
