More than 17 trees and bushes were planted in the capital city on November 12. In total, the Chisinau City Hall intends to organize the planting of 60,000 saplings by the end of autumn. Planting works this week will take place on the territory of educational institutions, acting head of the Green Areas Association Victoria Covali stated in the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services.
According to Victoria Covali, the planting effort involved about 2,000 persons representing all the municipal services, business entities, professional associations, etc. About 14,000 saplings, which is the largest number, were planted in the Forest Park “La Izvor”. “The goal of this large-scale event was to ensure the connectivity of habitats and our response to international treaties’ provisions concerning the reduction of carbon emissions, conservation of urban biodiversity, etc.” stated the functionary.
She noted that among the planted trees were such species as poplars and acacias, which grow quickly, and sycamores, which were planted primarily by the roadside.
In the course of this week, tree saplings will be distributed to the schools and kindergartens where trees were downed following rainstorms. Massive planting works will be performed in Centru, Râșcani and Ciocana district and the citizens are invited to join in the planting campaign.
